Why is everything getting so ridiculously strict? Is this North Korea or something?

NS-SEX for your time.

Is it just me or does the NSX kinda resemble an F-15?

Are you fucking kidding me? A 1965 law? What kind of shit are the Feds smoking?

While we’re at it let’s take some dynamite to Mount Rushmore and the Lincoln Monument because that’ll definitely make the surrounding areas more beautiful.
Seriously, one does not get rid of an American icon.

What is this regarding?

It’s not ridiculously strict, it’s just people applying the law broadly and it having unexpected reprocussions. I mean, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want giant glowing neon signs outside my window, hence why the law is in place: size limitations on signage near roads. If they were smart, they would have put an exemption for Times Square directly into the law, instead of having the kerfuffle they’re having now.

To be fair, Mount Rushmore is one hell of an eyesore. I bet the mountains there originally were much better looking.

To play devil’s advocate, people frequently quote legislation established in 1788 as a basis for their rights in America.

Well then don’t move next to Times Square?
They’re pulling random laws out of their asses for some reason.

That will just be depressing as hell.
It’s part of the NYC experience to go to Times Square!

It’s not a random law, it’s a law that everyone else has had to abide by since 1965. What I’m saying is that when they changed legislation as to which streets in Manhattan would be affected by the new law, they should have exempted Times Square.

Can’t they just call it a heritage site or something?

One of my favorite parts of the city. Between that and all the Panthers leaving the city, it’ll be one interesting place.

TBH, they could probably bribe somebody.

The real question is why is it considered a highway?
![]() 05/06/2015 at 21:58 |

Actually, this isn’t that crazy, right? The NSX interior is often called a “cockpit” because of its great visibility. I’ve even read online that it was inspired by the F16 cockpit, so it’s not that farfetched.

But seriously, as somebody from outside of the US, I think you guys have bigger issues to worry about than what size some banners are.

I was there in 2012 for the NYIAS and I was in awe. It was just awesome to see one of those things you only got to see in photographs growing up. I don’t want to see it go. It’s been fine for 50 years.. why now!??
Also, I’m going to miss the Crown Vics. I got the true NY experience getting the Middle Eastern fucking madman Cabbie in his beaten up Crown Vic. It was so much fun though

According to Wikipedia:
“A highway is any public road or other public way on land. It is used for major roads, but also includes other public roads and public tracks: It is not an equivalent term to freeway (motorway) , or a translation for autobahn , autoroute , etc.”
So, from this definition, a highway is any public road. Meaning your street, my street, Route 66, the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, all of them are considered highways. It just so happens that interstates in America are considered highways as well.

You just pointed out the age of the law, not the content. I was merely doing the same.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 22:15 |

I don’t know about NY state, but many places legally define a “highway” as any public road, street, freeway, path, etc.

In the original NSX “brochure,” they actually claimed to have been inspired by the F-16 when going for good visibility (which it has, in every direction but to the rear, which is still decent for the type of car.)

Dear idiots:
Some of us remember when Times square was a flaming shithole. Don’t fuck up the progress. It may no longer be “raw NYC” but it’s nice to be able to walk the streets after sundown.

The airplane in that photo even has “FF” on the tail. It’s for Far-Fetched.
![]() 05/07/2015 at 06:25 |

Well, the context of the law was that it limited the size of billboards, which is good for literally any other part of the country asides from Times Square. Fortunately, the Transportation Department is going to be a bunch of combative assholes who are going to diminish the appeal of an American landmark

“Highway beautification act”...lol.

Municipal officials just need to get more creative in combing obscure regulations until they find one that supports the signage.
Something like “
The National and Regional Historical District Preservation Act (1922)***
“ which allows exemptions for signage outside of the scope of the highway traffic act in areas with historical significance that have been in place for periods of time exceeding 25 years.
***not a real act; for demonstration purposes only
I swear to gawd that’s how you get shit done; find a policy, rule, regulation or law that you can cite as your justification. Bureaucracies are only frustrating until you learn how to bend them to your needs: they only require a strong enough rationale on file in order to accept whatever you want to do.
